This project is relevant to the global objective as it strengthens the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform through a weekly radio programme, training for journalists and two civil society forums. The programme focuses on promoting civil society’s response to human rights and to promoting human rights education in Afghanistan.
The project will also promote independent media through commissioning reports from journalists outside Kabul to ensure the programme covers issues relevant to the whole of Afghanistan. Small trainings or coaching will also be offered on various issues to journalists, by Skype or in workshop format, depending on their location, travel options, infrastructure etc.
We hope to improve human rights in Afghanistan, strengthening civil society and the independent media, enhancing the opportunities for marginalised groups to take part in political debate and to learn about human rights in an accessible format.
It will broadcast a weekly national radio programme – Know Your Rights! - with a focus on issues that affect women, education, health education, agriculture and human rights, particularly issues of relevance for remote areas. There will be talkback radio as a medium for discussion of human rights issues and to engage listeners.
We aim to bring communities together across the country, to promote and sustain democratic institutions and human rights, empower women and encourage education in families, particularly for girls.
.
The Project will work to support the National Action Plan for Women in Afghanistan as well as thte work of the Independent Human Rights Commission.
